2024 Advanced Data Management Certificate Program

You will receive an email titled “Instructure Canvas” with instructions on how to access Canvas, the learning platform run by Simon Fraser University (SFU). Note, it may take up to one week to receive access to the platform as information is transferred over to SFU. The invitation for each course in Canvas will then be provided on the first day of the scheduled facilitated time frame.

CPAs are increasingly required to understand how to utilize software and systems to create advanced models and conduct analysis to generate clear, relevant data for decision makers.

In this certificate program you will learn how to analyze data, reduce risk, and add value in this advanced online program for CPAs in industry.

The program is comprised of five online facilitated courses, including four core courses and one capstone course. Aside from the capstone, each course can be taken individually or as a part of the full program. All core courses must be complete to be eligible to take the capstone course.

The program has been designed to allow students to complete all courses within one year. Individual courses are designed to be completed within 6 weeks following the format of 1 module per week through the facilitated sessions for core courses, and 6 weeks to complete the capstone project.

Previous data cleansing knowledge is required. We recommend the Data Management Foundations Certificate. Additional prerequisites may include other data cleansing courses, programs or equivalent real-world data cleansing experience.

Students should already be comfortable using a data analytic tool (such as Power Query or Power BI) to perform data manipulations, aggregations, and calculations as well as be able to problem-solve and troubleshot using the tool.

In addition, a well-prepared learner will have basic statistics knowledge, basic visualization building and basic data model and dashboarding knowledge.

While the focus is on the Microsoft suite of products, this program is designed to be tool agnostic, meaning, you can use your preferred tool, software and/or method to complete the activities. This is not a software tutorial program. It is expected that you have a good command of at least one tool.

Refunds are available, subject to a $300 administrative fee (plus applicable taxes), for cancellations on courses not yet accessed. Cancellation requests must be made within one month of the purchase date. Any cancellations received after the deadline or course enrollment will not be eligible for a refund.
